Ignite the Future. Share the Legacy.
The Lucas-Kennedy Foundation for African Development is proud to announce the launch of the inaugural class of its Online Mentoring Program, beginning in September 2026. This exciting new initiative connects the next generation of leaders with seasoned professionals who have dedicated their careers to international development, diplomacy, science, agriculture, business, and public service.
As part of this first mentoring cycle, four outstanding undergraduate students have been carefully matched with Africare alumni, whose decades of experience across Africa represent one of the richest reservoirs of development knowledge and leadership in the world. Over the year, each mentor and mentee will participate in monthly virtual mentoring sessions, supported by the Foundation through structured discussion guides, networking opportunities, and professional development resources.
The inaugural student cohort reflects the Foundation's commitment to preparing future leaders in fields critical to Africa's development, including agriculture, education, public health, science and technology, aviation, international commerce, foreign relations, and related disciplines. In recognition of their dedication and successful completion of the program, each mentee will receive a $3,000 Lucas-Kennedy Foundation Scholarship to help them continue their education and pursue careers that create lasting impact.
The Online Mentoring Program embodies the Lucas-Kennedy Foundation's mission to strengthen leadership pipelines, promote intergenerational learning, and preserve the values that made Africare one of the world's most respected development organizations. By pairing accomplished professionals with emerging leaders, the program provides students with practical career guidance, expands their professional networks, and instills the principles of ethical leadership, service, and partnership that have transformed lives across Africa for more than five decades.
Mentorship has always been one of the most powerful investments we can make in the future. Every conversation, every lesson learned, and every relationship built strengthens the foundation upon which tomorrow's leaders will stand. As we celebrate the launch of this inaugural mentoring class, we invite Africare alumni and friends of Africa to volunteer as mentors for the 2027 mentoring cycle. Together, we can preserve Africare's extraordinary legacy—not only by remembering its achievements, but by inspiring and preparing the leaders who will write its next chapter.
