Promotion of African Cultural Legacy with Bowie State University
─────────────────
Bowie State University, supported by the Lucas-Kennedy Foundation, is developing What the Cloth Remembers: Healing, History, and African Textile Traditions, a proposed 2028 exhibition exploring how African textiles preserve and communicate cultural identity, history, spirituality, artistry, resilience, and connections across the African diaspora.

The exhibition will also support student learning, scholarly interpretation, public programming, and greater community engagement with African material culture. We invite individuals and organizations willing to lend authentic African textiles for temporary display to contact us. We are especially interested in textiles with documented information about their country or community of origin, cultural significance, age, maker, materials, or personal history. We will carefully review all prospective items with their owners, and we will not include any textile without the lender’s written authorization and mutually agreed-upon arrangements for its care, display, and return.
